Immigration Officials Considered Racial Profiling

The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina said that e-mails that were found through federal public records law show that the federal government was contemplating using a plan that would encourage racial profiling. Raul Pinto, the staff attorney for ACLU, said that U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement had a plan called “The DMV Project” which would have involved the Division of Motor Vehicles to increase “criminal alien removals”. “These types of policies breed racial profiling,” Pinto said. Pinto also stated, “These policies, they catch and detain and interrogate folks who are here legally.”
