Coptic Pope Tawadros II criticizes Egypt’s Islamist Leaders

Pope Tawadros has taken a political stance against President Morsi’s calls for national dialogue. The Coptic Church had called this dialogue “mere window shopping”. Tawadros believes that the issues that Christians are having in Egypt need to be better addressed by the Islamic brotherhood. He stated that, “We must and will actively take part in any national dialogue in which we see benefit for our nation”. He continued also by saying, “But when we find that a dialogue ends before it starts and none of its results are implemented then we realize that it is not in the best interest in the nation”. Pope Tawadros is pleased with the fact more Christians taking part in protests that have swept Egypt but made it clear that they should remain peaceful.
