Andréa Winters Morelos, known as “Drea” to friends and family, has recently joined Guirguis Law in an Of Counsel relationship. Ms. Morelos will focus primarily on family law and employment discrimination.
Ms. Morelos received her undergraduate degree in Political Science (with a Concentration in Law and Political Philosophy) from North Carolina State University and her Juris Doctor from UNC Law School. For over a decade, Ms. Morelos has been practicing mainly in family law and employment discrimination. She worked at several small to medium sized law firms as an associate attorney before launching her own solo practice in 2013.
Ms. Morelos has always had a strong interest in helping people and representing individuals’ rights. While in law school, Ms. Morelos interned at Glenn Mills Fisher & Mahoney, PA, assisting clients with civil rights and employment discrimination matters. She also interned at North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services (NCPLS), assisting inmates across the state with post-conviction relief as well as with tort claims for medical negligence endured during incarceration. Based on her experience with NCPLS, Ms. Morelos was selected as the Coordinator for UNC Law’s Prisoners Rights Project for two years. Ms. Morelos also received a certificate from the NC Bar Association for completing 100 hours of Pro Bono Service upon graduation. Since becoming a licensed attorney, Ms. Morelos has volunteered for UNC Law School’s Community Legal Project (CLP), which offers free legal assistance through the Compass Center for Women and Families in Chapel Hill (formerly The Women’s Center). She has also participated in the Lawyers Referral Service since 2003, a program sponsored by the NC Bar Association that connects individuals in need with a local attorney in the relevant practice area. Finally, Ms. Morelos happily donates her time once a year at the NC Bar Association’s “4ALL Statewide Service Day” – where attorneys throughout North Carolina answer phone calls all day and provide free legal information and referral resources for numerous areas of law.
In addition to handling family law and employment matters at Guirguis Law, Ms. Morelos will continue to operate Morelos Law, giving special attention to jointly developing and serving clients of both firms in a coordinated, mutually-beneficial manner. Guirguis Law is thrilled to add the additional experience of Ms. Morelos to its team.
